How to fix your UOIT Laptop Wireless

Share

NOTE: As of the 2009-2010 academic year, this is no longer an issue on the latest laptop image.

The problem of the UOIT laptop wireless issues have been solved. If you cannot connect to your home wi-fi properly, this is for you.

1. Click your Start Menu, then Connect To, then Show all connections.

2. Find the connections labeled VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter. You may not have two like me. Right-click each one, then click Disable.

3. Right-click your Wireless Network Connection, then click Properties.

4. Uncheck the VMware Bridge Protocol box.

5. Restart your computer and you are done! :)

Thanks to Jamere, Millie, and Zahid for telling me the fix.

For the technically inclined that want an explanation, basically VMware (a virtual machine program) is installed on the laptops and has it’s own default gateway configured. Your default gateway, simply put, is the address of your router that your computer connects to. For some reason the VMware settings override your actual wireless router settings, so instead of connecting properly to your router, it tries to connect to the default gateway defined through the VMware Network driver.

No idea, but looking at the settings put in on the laptop, maybe what you are looking for is “EAP-MSCHAP v2″. What that means, I don't know.

It is most definitely EAP-MSCHAP v2, but I still don't know what authentication certificate to use, if you have any ideas on that your help would be very much appreciated.

Hey ted can you make a tutorial on how to connect android phones to the campus air. Blackberry and Apple phones can connect but not android. It says that you need WEP enterprise certificate.
