All UOIT student fees rising in 09/10 year
This publicly available board report from the UOIT website reveals the planned student fees for the 2009-2010 school year. The verdict: everything is going up.
Before you get too up in arms about this, read the background section which states that the tuition fees up to 2010 were already decided upon way back in 2006. In addition, the ancillary fees have always increased at a rate consistent with inflation.
It doesn’t lessen the pain on your wallet at all, but it’s good to note that this isn’t anything new, students aren’t having anything pulled over their heads, and as ancillary fee protocols are a provincial requirement, it’s almost definite the same thing is happening at every other school. But if you were looking to figure out how much money you need to save up at your summer job, here’s the info you need.

I never understood why international students have to pay so much more than the rest of us. It's not like they aren't already paying more just to live here.

The Canadian government actually matches what each Canadian student pays in funding to the school, but not for international students. At least that's what a prof told me once.

Dear Ted
I have been keeping up with your blog and I just wanted to comment on the fees for the 2009/2010 year. The SA has worked really hard this year and students will pay $25 less a year, with the elimination of the advancement fee. We are now looking at all other fees and will continue to lobby for lower fees where we can.
One thing we will be doing is giving students a break down of all ancillary fees, including what the fee goes to exeactly including salaries, overhead… etc…also we will provide how long the fee has been in place and when the fee expires; if there is a term date on the fee. This will ensure students fully understand where their money goes.

I have one typo… it should read exactly in the third sentence from the bottom of the entry instead of exeactly.
