UOIT could become UofO

UOIT is still no further ahead in their search for a new name. But a recent news article mentions one idea I like a lot.
Another member suggested asking the government for the name University of Ontario, and if it isn’t granted, the school can run institute of technology beside the name in eight-point font.
It drops the IT part, which seems to be the main issue, but still retains enough of the name so that we wouldn’t have to try and build our reputation up from scratch again.
Sounds good to me!

I completely agree! University of Ontario is perfect… completely revamping the name to anything else basically erases everything our school has accomplished.

Hmmm I personally don’t like the idea because of the confusion with the University of Ottawa…. UofO could easily be confused with that. I am aware that University of Ottawa is shortened to OttawaU however I could see confusion arising. I think that something along the lines of University of Central Ontario would be somewhat more appropriate… although not geographically accurate, UCO would be unique enough to distinguish us.

Good point Thompson, didn’t think of that. Definitely some confusion potential.

Sounds good to me.
I started pronouncing the current name as U Owe IT. Kinda makes sense…

This was one of my two perfect solutions I suggested on your last article here. (The other was Ontario Institute of Technology). The truth is, only Ontario and Nova Scotia do not have a university named only after the province. Seems like the U of O is the most powerful name they can pick (if you also think that names have power :p ).
